Grade 5

DAY 1: Draw your own staff. Make eight measures with bar lines. Don't forget to put a double bar at the end! Next, make a G clef and choose a time signature to place next to it. Now place quarter notes, half notes, quarter rests and half rests on the staff. Do your notes and rests add up to your time signature? Now you can play your own song! What did you use for a percussion instrument? I look forward to hearing your music! For DAY 2 repeat the assignment for day 1 except use a different time signature. For example, if you used 4/4 time for your first song, you can try 3/4, 2/4 or 5/4 time on your second song! I would suggest keeping 'four' in your denominator at this time. When you play your second song, you could try a different percussion instrument. I'll be curious to hear what you used! Good luck! DAY 3 Now it's time to use eighth notes in your composition. Draw your own staff with eight measures like you did on day 1. Using a time signature of 4/4, see how many different combinations of eighth notes you can use in your song. Remember, eighth notes can occur on any count in the measure. You're welcome to use double eighth notes if you dare!
